For a while, they couldn't! Although the pay for a private was only $6, the Congress almost never was able to pay the soldiers. In fact, only the soldiers' respect for their Commander, George Washington, kept many from deserting. She was otherwise known as Molly Pitcher. Molly got this name by serving the soldiers water when they were really thirsty. Pitcher tended to the hurt soldiers on the battlefield and was very helpful. There are some statues of her today since she was so important in the Revolutionary War.
Some people think that Benedict Arnold is important because he was a traitor in the American Revolutionary War. He was first a great general for the American soldiers but then things all of sudden changed and he went over to be a British Soldier because he thought that the American soldiers would lose against the British. But turns out that he was wrong about that because the American soldiers won the American Revolutionary War between American soldiers and British soldiers. ~Thank You~
