How was life during the US Civil War for women?

The life for women during the civil war wasn't to good, it wasn't to good for the lawmakers the soldiers the farmers of the slaves either of course. Women still had little freedom compared to white men. The couldn't vote or run for office. And of course many of the married women's husbands and sons went of to war. 600,000 of which would not return. Women had to keep their families fed and there houses in good condition with no help from thier husbands (who were young enough to go to war) or thier sons (who were old enough to go to war) life during the civil war for women was pretty crappy indeed. Back then it was only good for weapon makers and funeral directors.
