Manifest Destiny is the idea that the land you want is given to you by God. That it is your destiny to fulfill what God has given. When a population of people thinks this way they will search for any means possible to make it true. With the invention of the steam train and the coverage across the country of trains from west to east coast it became easier to grow and add in, homestead acts, land rushes, and the CA gold rush the western movement of people just kept growing. It was destiny and God wanted them to do it.

Manifest Destiny
U.S. foreign policy in the 1800s was largely characterized by a focus on expansionism and the doctrine of Manifest Destiny, which justified territorial expansion across North America. Key events included the Louisiana Purchase, the acquisition of Texas, and the Mexican-American War, all of which aimed to extend U.S. territory. Additionally, the Monroe Doctrine established a principle of opposing European colonialism in the Americas, asserting U.S. influence in the Western Hemisphere. Overall, the period was marked by a combination of diplomatic efforts and military actions to promote American interests and territorial growth.
Southerners sought territorial expansion primarily to secure new lands for agriculture, particularly for the cultivation of cotton and other cash crops that were integral to their economy. They believed that expanding into new territories would allow for the continuation and growth of slavery, which they viewed as essential for their agricultural system. Additionally, territorial expansion was seen as a way to increase political power and influence in the federal government, particularly to maintain a balance between free and slave states. This drive for expansion was often framed in terms of manifest destiny and the belief in American superiority.

Manifest Destiny
False. Manifest Destiny refers to the ideology justifying westward expansion of the young American Republic. The inception and invention of the steam engine was not a cause of this. That being said the steam engine enabled American industrialization and transportation infrastructure allowing for growth.
Some Americans viewed manifest destiny as a divine right and duty to expand the United States across the North American continent. This belief was rooted in the idea that it was the nation's destiny to spread democracy and civilization, often justifying the displacement of Native American populations and the annexation of territories. Additionally, many saw it as an opportunity for economic growth and the spread of American ideals. Ultimately, manifest destiny was seen as both a national mission and a moral imperative.
God was on the side of American expansion... "Manifest" means obvious and "Destiny" means certain. "Manifest Destiny was a phrase first coined by John L. Sullivan, an advocate writer urging the United States to annex the Republic of Texas. Meaning of "imperialism" is Empire building and or domination over foreign people. American imperialism is connected to "Manifest Destiny", through the short-lived Spanish-American War. Historians agree that being the only time the United States annexed anyones soil because territorial growth was needed.
