Originally all that the wanted from the new world was religious freedom, but then wanted all the natives in the new world toconform to their religoin.
Europeans did not ask permission from the natives to settle and claim land in the New World. However, this doesn't mean all Europeans had nasty relations with the natives. The Spanish were relatively harsh towards the natives, the French were relatively friendly towards the natives, and the British tried to keep their distance.

Some did, some didn't. Some decided to cheat the natives, killed them via disease, and other believed it was wrong. The majority did not want to share the new world with the natives though.
