There are several US Mints, where they make coins. In the early 20th century, they were Denver, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.
On quarters made from 1892 to 1916 there may be a tiny letter just below the eagle's tail feathers; S for San Francisco, D for Denver, and no letter indicates Philadelphia.

You can test if a quarter is real silver by using a magnet; silver is not magnetic, so if the coin is attracted to the magnet, it is not real silver.
