Weird i just saw one on ebay with the same dia hole as mine
except on the top my question is were these cancelled with the hole
by the mint i keep seeing 1852s with the same hole it isn't a new hole either
The relevance is some fool drilled a hole in it.
It's still worth 1 cent, other than that take any offer you get. The hole kills any collectible value the coin had but some people do collect this stuff.
The mint does not drill holes into the coins. If a hole is drilled into a coin it dramatically reduces value. MANY COUNTRIES DRILLED HOLES IN THEIR COINS. THE COINS WERE WORN FOR JEWELRY AND THAT RENDERS THE COIN PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS.
The hole was used to tie a string in order to recover the coin once the coin was used in a vending machine .
They never have. If your coin has a hole and is a US coin then someone drilled it in. It was not done at a US mint.

A counterbored hole in engineering is used to create a recessed area at the top of a drilled hole. This allows for a screw or bolt head to sit flush with the surface. It is different from a regular drilled hole because it has a wider diameter at the top to accommodate the head of the fastener.
Trepanning or trephining, in which the surgeon drilled a hole as large as 1-2 in diameter in the patient's skull without benefit of anesthesia.
The size of the hole drilled for a door knob should typically be 2 1/8 inches in diameter.

A 7/64 inch pilot hole should be drilled for a 8 wood screw.
About 20 dollars! Hey oh!
the hole was a dead end hole you drilled all the way thru and into the water jacket. depending on the model of head you just made sure you get to buy another and replace the one you drilled. Next time go to a mechanic that knows what they are doing.
