The vast majority of "Confederate banknotes" are actually reproductions sold at gift shops or included in souvenir sets. Any made since 1973 are required by law to have the word COPY or REPLICA printed on them, but tens of millions were made before that date.
Most of them are made using a photoreproduction process and are printed on artificially aged paper which makes it difficult for the average buyer to know whether they're real unless you do some research. See the Related Link for a list of common reproductions, for example.
