Miwok homes were made in two different styles: conical houses of redwood boards laid over a framework of Douglas fir (kotcha) and domed houses with willow framework covered in grass or tule (kaawul kotcha). Both types were fairly small structures that could accommodate only a few people.

Larger villages also had communal roundhouses for gathering and ceremonies - these were naturally much larger buildings.

The conical and domed houses were about 8 or 10 feet tall and just 10 or 12 feet across; communal roundhouses could be over 40 feet across.
