Contributions to the Presidential Election Campaign Fund are made through voluntary donations from taxpayers who can choose to allocate $3 of their federal income tax to the fund by checking a box on their tax return. Additionally, candidates who qualify can receive matching funds from this pool for small contributions raised during their campaign. However, participation in this system comes with spending limits for candidates.
