Tobacco depended on foreign markets, so its price varied widely. Tobacco also wore out land quickly because it stripped the soil of its nutrients. Rice needed to have a wet climate.

Where were Carolina rice plantations slaves from?

The enslaved individuals on Carolina rice plantations primarily came from West Africa, particularly from regions such as present-day Senegal, Gambia, and the Angola area. Their agricultural knowledge, especially in rice cultivation, was instrumental in establishing the rice industry in the Carolinas. Many were forcibly taken from their homelands through the transatlantic slave trade, which brought millions of Africans to the Americas. This expertise helped shape the plantation economy in the region.

Which state invented brown rice?

Brown rice was not invented. Brown rice is a product of milling rice without polishing off the natural rice bran layer. Only the husk is removed. Rice bran is normally brown in color. Some varieties of rice have black, violet or red bran layers therefore are called as such. Ancient people ate brown rice because the polisher wasn't invented yet and rice was kept in the husk and processed only before eating . Today millions of tons of rice are processed into white rice. Why? Brown rice spoils in 6 months because of the oil in the bran. If you don't keep them in the husk they oxidize.
