By Sea. At that time, the city of Boston was out on the end of a long penisular. There was only road leading into the city, which would be the "land" route. The route by sea was crossing the bay due north into Charlestown. Then they marched the roads to Lexington and then to Concord. The words "One of By Land and Two if by Sea" were from the poem by H. W. Longfellow. This poem has some things that are NOT historically accurate. They did display 2 lanterns in the belfry of the Old North Church but the signal was not for Paul Revere but for the "rebels" across the bay. Also, two riders were sent to warn Lexington and Concords. Paul Revere took the route across the bay (or by sea), where he mounted a horse. Another rider road the land route to reach Lexington about the same time. Later, on the ride to Concord, both were captured by a British patrol and a local doctor took the alarm to Concord.
British military leaders in the colonies grew uneasy when local militias seemed to be preparing for action. The government of Massachusetts, Thomas Cage, learned that a stockpile of weapons was stored in Concord, about 20 miles from Boston. In April 1775 he decided to seize the supplies.
Lexington and Concord was a event that happened in 1775. The Sons of Liberty were storing guns and ammunition in Concord, but on the night of April 18 a patrol of British troops came ashore in Charlestown to go to Concord to collect the guns. Three colonial men were assigned the task to warn the men in Concord, but of the three only one made it to the town. Revere was stopped by a British patrol and his horse taken away. Dawes fell off his horse leaving Dr. Prescott to finish the ride. None of them yelled " the British are coming " because EVERYONE was British. In Lexington the 77 men of the town were waiting for the British and someone fired a shot starting a small battle. Several men died and the British burned houses then moved on to Concord. When they got to Concord colonists were waiting for them and a battle took place at the bridge of Concord, but that wasn't the end of it. As the British marched back to Boston colonists shot at them from behind fences and trees. The British thought this was poor form. The troops were in bad shape by the time reached Boston. The legend that is told about this event comes from Longfellow in 1861 when he wrote a poem about the ride of Revere.
Bills in the Georgia General Assembly are not allowed to have riders, unless the rider pertains to the subject matter of the original bill. The bill can only have one subject matter.
Lafayette commemorative halves were issued in 1900. The only commemorative half dollar with that dual date was struck to honor the battle of Lexington and Concord. Please see the Related Question for more information.

The very first Patriots day is when the battles of Lexington and Concord occurred sometime in 1775 somewhere in Boston. To this day, Patriot's day has been known to commemorate the battles fought between the two factions on that day.
