They were a group of people who practiced Calvinism, and they were unsatified with the Church of England saying that it was still too much like the Roman Catholic Church. So they decided to separate from the Church of England but King James I didn't approve and they persecuted. So they decided to go to America and settle around the Chesapeake Bay area. So they got a ship the infamous Mayflower and they set sail, but they were hit by a terrible storm and were blown off course and they landed in what is present day Massachusetts founding the Plymouth Colony.

Puritans and Pilgrims
The religious group known as the Pilgrims sought religious freedom from the Church of England. They had sought and secured a charter from King James to have a colony in the New World possessions of Great Britain. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean, but due to storms, mis-navigated their direction. Their ship was the Mayflower, and instead of landing far to the south, they ended up on the coast near what is now the city of Boston, in 1620. They called their settlement Plymouth.
They were also known as Puritans and separatists.
