A 1912 U.S. nickel is referred to as a "Liberty Head" nickel. This was the last year (1883-1912) of issue for this coin and the only year they were also struck at the Denver & San Francisco Mints. The first thing you need to do is check the back of the coin to see if it has a mintmark, if it has one, they are under the dot on the left side of the word "CENTS" and can only be a "D" or "S" also they are very small. If no mintmark, the coin was struck in Philadelphia and has a average value of $1.00-$3.00. With a "D" (Denver) the value is $3.00-$10.00 and a "S" (San Francisco) values are $150.00-$275.00. Values are for the lowest 3 grades of coins, better grade coins have higher values. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.
