Eleanor Roosevelt was unquestionably a large and robust woman whom Gore Vidal referred to in his memoir of his memoir (or second memoir, if you will), Point to Point Navigation (if that makes any sense), as being "...disguised as a Sherman tank."

This probably gave her a truck-driver sort of image at a time when truck drivers were pretty much all male.

In any case, in all my readings I have not come across a single hint that Ms. Roosevelt was anything but the long suffering wife of cheating Franklin Roosevelt, which of course means that if she were gay, you couldn't blame her.

Also, if she were bisexual or gay, her big-mouthed, attention-seeking and irreverent flaming gay friend, Mr. Vidal, would gladly have blown it all over the media, just for a bit more attention.

So, my opinion is that she was not, or if so, it was nobody's business.
