Yes Sally Hemmings was a slave. Her mother Betty was the slave to the Wayles family (the family of Thomas Jefferson's wife). Betty had six children by Martha's father. When Martha's father died Thomas Jefferson received about 200 slaves including Betty and her daughter Sally.
Sally Hemmings. She was the slave of Thomas Jefferson and had his children.
because he owned slaves and indeed had a child with his slave sally hemmings You're off by about 100 years. Sally was with Jefferson not Lincoln. Also, Lincoln did NOT own slaves.
Some did, but by no means all. The modern perception of our sex-drenched culture is that such events were the rule rather than the exception, and this was not so. Most white slave owners were married, and most wives would not put up with such betrayals. If you were the sort who did do this, the neighbors would know, and such behavior was socially unacceptable. The other slaves would certainly know and talk. Children born of slave mothers were also slaves, which was awkward to say the least. The most notorious instance was Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings. However, Sally was actually the biological half sister of Jefferson's wife Martha, because Martha's father WAS such a man. Sally looked a lot like Martha, and Jefferson's relationship with Sally apparently took place after Martha had died (Jefferson never remarried). It did happen but was infrequent enough to cause commentary when it did, as it was almost always known. That was a very religious time in America, and people took religious teachings seriously.
Bony, sally , roger , emma .
Genealogists tell us that Sally was a serious love interest of Thomas Jefferson.
Sally Hemmings. She was the slave of Thomas Jefferson and had his children.
sally did not have formal edu. because she was a slave and slaves didn't really get formal edu. any one else like turtles?
Thomas Jefferson, his two daughters, and his 'concubine' and slave- Sally (Sarah) Hemmings.
Sally Hemmings and it was more than an affair. His wife had died and some years after her death he and Sally got together. She had 6 children by him and they were together until he died.
No. George Jefferson didn't have a daughter. He had a mulatto (or, as George referred to her, a "zebra") daughter-in-law, Jenny (Willis) Jefferson, the wife of his son Lionel. Sally Hemmings is associated with Thomas Jefferson, but not as a daughter. She was a slave owned by him, and DNA tests have shown that at least one of Sally Hemmings' children was fathered by a male in Jefferson's family, though not necessarily Thomas Jefferson himself.

There's strong evidence that Thomas Jefferson fathered one or more children by Sally Hemmings, one of his slaves.

Yes he was married and I imagine in VA. His wife died early in the marriage and he never remarried, but he did have a relationship with a slave named Sally Hemmings. They had 6 children.
Yes Thomas Jefferson did have a long standing affair with Sally Hemmings and fathered many, if not all of her children. To call her black is not excatly true. She was 3/4 white. Her mother was the product of an African Slave and a British sea captain and her father was white (and also the father of Jeffersons wife Martha)
Because Sally was Jefferson's Wife's step sister.
Sally Hemmings is most well-known as being one of Thomas Jefferson's slaves, with whom he had and affair while he was marrid. What is less well-known is that she was a half-sister to Thomas Jefferson's wife. Jefferson's wife's father had had an affair with one of his own black slaves. Sally Hemmings is the child born of that affair.
