If you came to the American colonies after your country united with England, you are likely from Ireland or Scotland. The Acts of Union in 1707 united England and Scotland, allowing Scots to migrate to English colonies. Similarly, the 18th century saw significant Irish migration to America, particularly after the 1707 union. Both groups contributed to the growth and culture of the American colonies.
Nobody really likes paying taxes. The American colonies were taxed to help pay for Britain's European conflicts. Eventually, it came down to the colonies stating: No Taxation Without Representation. The rest is history, as they say.

The first citizens of the US colonies primarily came from England. The early settlers, including those who established the Jamestown colony in 1607 and the Pilgrims in 1620, were predominantly English. Over time, other European nations contributed to the demographics of the colonies, but England played the most significant role in their initial founding.
There is no answer because the United States is from a combination of nations. Even the earliest colonies had a variety of traditions and people. My own family came to Virginia from Ireland in the 1600's. There was a huge population of Germans/Dutch in the colonies. This is the strength of this country because of the variety of people who came and are still adding to the culture of the country.
Common law came to America from English settlers who arrived in the early colonies. It is based on legal principles developed in England over centuries and continued to be used as the foundation of the legal system in the American colonies and later in the United States.
