America contributed to World War 1 before 1917 by supplying the warring countries with military goods. This led to an economic boom that sustained America's war spending when it eventually entered the war.
At first they tried to remain neutral but when they realized that Britain and France were close to losing the war they entered in 1917 because they thought that if Germany won it would be a direct threat to democracy.
1. They entered when the USS Maine was sunken which carried american citizens, it was supposely an accident but the media blamed it on Spain. 2. the Zimmerman telegram- A secret telegram going to Mexico from germany saying if you help us out with the war then we will help you get back New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and California which was land that used to be part of Mexico. America later got ahold of this telegram which i think was from Great Britain that first got ahold of it.
The United States entered the war for many reasons. The number one reason was that the Germans were sinking neutral ships, including U.S. ships and killing Americans.
