Though, he Cassus Belli or the direct cause of the Civil War was the firing on Fort Sumter, there were many underlying causes that contributed to the disruption of the union. Sectional crisis was the main reason; the North and the South were divided against each other on many political and cultural issues. If they could not agree to resolve problems of the union, it was impossible for the union to remain united. In order to appease one side, the others would form a series of compromises. However, the compromises did not fully create sectional peace. The North or South was always afraid that one or the other would obtain too much power. each was determined to stay the way they were, the South as a slave-holding section, and the North as a free-labor section. Slavery was not the main cause of the war, but it did contribute to the tension. Many of the reasons for disagreement and compromise were over slavery. the fact was that the North was against slavery while the South was not, and each was afraid the other would gain control and compromise the others way of life. Their contrary views eventually made sectional compromise impossible, and when Lincoln, an advocate of emancipation was elected, the South decided to secede. War was inevitable if the union was to hold together.
I know one had to do with slavery
True. Slavery had very little or nothing to do with the reasons for the American civil war.
Slavery.... And of course the fire on fort Sumter.
some historical causes of the civil war were slavery and the splitting of the country people wanted to keep it together whcih caused it to split
The Civil War, depsite what most people believe, was not started over slavery. It was actually started over the election of the the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Slavery only played a part of the role in the Civil War. Slavery affected the Civil War because many slaves came in to help the North win the Battle, which did not help. In the end the Civil War basically ended slavery, or abolished it.

No. The root causes of the American Civil War were economic (taxation) and political (states' rights).

The South wanted to secede from the union, but the North wanted to stay as one country. The North wanted to abolish slavery but the South wanted to keep slavery.
