The Cotton Gin. And was created by Eli Whitney.
In April, 1793, Eli Whitney created the cotton gin. This increased the need for slave labor drastically.
The invention of the cotton gin (short for cotton engine or cotton seeding machine, automating the removal of the seeds from raw cotton), which made massive cultivation of cotton economical. Cheap labor (i.e. slaves) were needed to harvest the large quantity of raw cotton produced.
Because the plantations in the south were more reliant on slave labor to produce crops, while in the north, they had little need for slaves due to the increased manufacturing in the north, plus, most northerners could not afford slaves
Well, "the South provided 2/5 of the world's cotton," and the more cotton produced, the more slaves you need. Crop profit increased, which meant more slaves. In addition, the cotton gin was invented which required many more slaves as well! Hope this helps :)
It increased the need for slaves.
The expansion of cotton plantations in the South, particularly after the invention of the cotton gin in 1793, significantly increased the demand for slaves to work in the fields. The profitability of cotton as a cash crop led to an expansion of slave labor in the region to meet the growing demand for cotton production.

When the cotton gin was invented, slaves became incredibly valuable. This invention separated seeds from the white cottony fiber of the cotton, eliminating the need of slaves to do it. So the farmers could now grow more cotton, and to do this they needed more slaves. But at this time slave trade was abolished. So slaves became extremely expensive. From $600 to $1,800!So people started to 'breed' slaves, as a result of this.
The cotton gin, invented by Eli Whitney, increased the need for more cotton because it reduced the price of production. More cotton needed to be picked therefore requiring more manual labor, slaves.
slaves
Eli Whitney. Slavery increased because cotton production greatly increased after the cotton gin was invented.

The south had 9 million people in 1860. Of those 4 million were slaves. With the invention of the cotton gin the need for slaves went up as the production of cotton went up. By 1835 over a million bales were produced.
