What were the reactions of people in the union?

there reaction to slavery was that the south was horrible that they kept slaves and slavery was a sin in gods eye's

Why slavery should have been continued?

I am glad slavery ended, but we could have kept it because sown south, especially in Texas, there were many cotton fields that needed to be kept up-to-date, so we could have had slaves to help us out there. Also slaves helped out in the fields of farms and made harvasting crops a lot faster than it would have been if only the farm owner's family was doing it. But again, I'm glad slavery ended.

What impact did the cotton gin have upon the South?

The cotton gin had an enormous effect on the cotton industry. It made cotton a more viable cash crop, making it "King" in the south. Thanks to the new invention, cotton was so profitable that much of the economic production of the South became dependent upon it. That meant that they were also dependent upon the institution of slavery. Plantation owners needed slaves to pick the cotton from their enormous fields, so they needed to protect the institution of slavery to preserve their economic system. Thus, they became increasingly hostile to Northern attempts to regulate slavery. This reliance on cotton production also had some other effects on the South. It depleted nutrients from the soil, making large sections of the South less fertile over time. It also kept the South more agricultural than the North which was beginning to industrialize in the early 19th century. This would make a difference during the Civil War.

Was slavery going in da 1950's?

Yes, there was slavery in the 1950's. Even though it was going to stop in the 1865 some people kept slaves or got slaves. There was still a rather discrimitive culture because people could be racist as there was no law against it, people saw racism all the time and couldn't see anything wrong with it - shops had signs saying 'no Irish; no coloured; no dogs;'

What was the goal of the primary goal of the civil war?

Power. Money is and the south was an agricultural power house. There was a lot of business in the south from around the world and the north felt power was too strong in the south . Especially since the last 3 or 4 presidents were from the south. They knew the people of the north would support any action taken against the south because of money and power , so they pushed slavery to the front. The preachers in the north preached hard on slavery and helped get the peoples support and the rest in history. By the way Delaware (in the north ) was the last state in the union to abolish, cease and desist in the slavery trade. The south was forced to quit in 1865 and Delaware kept it up for a few years after the Civil War had ended.

Why thomas Edison is important?

Thomas Edison was the first "industrial" inventor. He took the art of invention to new heights, and made it into a real industry. Edison's real genius lay not in invention itself, but in commercializing his inventions. He made sure that each invention would have a market, that it really was useful and desired BEFORE he invented it. He was astonishingly persistent, and kept going when others might have given up.
