Dead reckoning is when you know where you start, and then simply count how far you've gone and in which direction - like 5 steps east, then 11 steps north ASO. The other way of navigating is when you look at where you are relative to something else, like ahead of this. at the side of that and behind whatever.

Which is best dead reckoning or astronomical navigation why?

Dead reckoning is good only for an estimate and is useful if time is of the essence. I would not be doing any precise navigation based on a dead reckon.Astronomical navigation is as precise as the scale is on the paper you are working on. It takes time to complete and skill to learn.
