Mississippi River
The Red River, which flows through the United States and Canada, is approximately 1,360 miles (2,190 kilometers) long. It originates in the Pembina Mountains of North Dakota and runs northward until it empties into Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. This river serves as a significant boundary between North Dakota and Minnesota for part of its course.

Early explorers were looking for a short cut to the India trading centers when they discovered North and South America. The called the olive skinned natives "Indians" because the thought they had reached India. When the discovered that they were wrong, the name stuck.
