"Great" condition is hard to pin down. The numismatic terms that might come closest are VF20, meaning slight wear, and XF40, meaning almost no wear.

Your coin's value depends very much on whether there is a mint mark on the back. Retail prices as of 10/2008 are as follows. Wholesale is of course less.

No mint mark (i.e. Philadelphia) : VF - $320; XF - $340

"S" (San Francisco) : VF - $940; XF - $3,970

"C" (Charlotte) : VF - $2,190; XF - $5,660

"D" (Dahlonega, GA) : VF - $8,440; XF - $11,250 In any case you should have your coin professionally appraised. Especially if it has a mint mark, DO NOT take it to one of the "we buy gold coins" places because you will be unlikely to get anything near wholesale.
