July 16, 2009 The 1890 double eagle was produced in 3 US Mint facilities; Philadelphia, Carson City and San Francisco. The mintmarks for these mints can be found on the reverse [tails] side of the coin beneath the eagle but above the word "TWENTY". The letter "S" indicates the coin was struck at the San Francisco mint, the letters "CC" indicates the coin was struck at the Carson City mint and if there is no letter beneath the eagle then that indicates the coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint and will be shown in this reply as 1890-P.
