In order to give an estimate of the value of a penny, the mintmark and the date are needed. There are many, many "S" mint pennies, each with its own value.
Circulated US wheat cents from the 40's & 50's are very common and most only have values of 3 to 10 cents.
At the most $3.50 but only in high grade uncirculated condition you got it in pocket change 10 cents to $1.00.
