1944 is a common date for Walking Liberty halves. As of 01/2010 Numismedia lists retail values of $8 to $9 for coins in average circulated condition, regardless of mint mark.
If your coin is in almost new to uncirculated condition, check on the back at the 8:00 position for a mint mark.
No mint mark:
$14 with almost no wear, $32 to $250 uncirculated.
D mint mark:
$18; $36-1000
S mint mark:
$24; $37-1100
A very small number of high-end uncirculated specimens have graded far higher but these aren't available to the average collector.
