7-30-11>>> If your 1972 coin is a uncirculated example it may be worth about $5.00 because the 1971 & 1972 issue coins were not included in the Uncirculated Mint sets sold from the Mint in those years. For the Eisenhower series some of the coins struck at the San Francisco Mint (S Mintmark) were 40% silver, but in general none of the Eisenhower dollars regardless of date or mintmark struck for general circulation contain any silver or have more than face value. Only proof and uncirculated collectors coins sold from the Mint have premiums.
The value of a 1972 silver dollar, specifically the Eisenhower dollar, varies based on its condition and mint mark. Most 1972 Eisenhower dollars are made of a copper-nickel composition and have little numismatic value, typically worth around $1 to $2. However, the 1972-S proof version, which was struck in 40% silver, can be worth more, generally ranging from $5 to $15 or more depending on its condition. Always check current market prices for the most accurate valuation.

"DO" isn't a mint mark. The mint mark on a silver dollar for that year is on the reverse (tails) side, just above the letters "do" in the word "dollar."

One Dollar
The U.S. has never used an E mint mark. My guess is that you're seeing the small D (Denver) mint mark that was used on coins up till the mid-1980s.
about $25 depending on condition and mint mark
The mint mark is under the date, and there is no silver in the coin actually the d is above the year.
They are still found in circulation, have no silver and are only face value
If the coin has any wear the value is for the silver, about $8.50
