There are 3 major varieties of 1805 half cents, so it's important to have your coin inspected in person by a professional dealer or appraiser. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be a * or *.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 03/2011:

Small "5" in the date, no stems:

Very worn condition - $60

Moderately worn - $108

Slightly worn - $228

Almost no wear - $796

Uncirculated - $1,380 to $3,130 depending on quality

Small "5" in the date, stems:

Very worn - $1,110

Moderately worn - $3,420

Slightly worn - $7,020

Almost no wear - $16,963

Large "5" in the date, no stems:

Very worn - $60

Moderately worn - $97

Slightly worn - $240

Almost no wear - $1,088

Uncirculated - $2,410 to $7,810

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
