Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be an S or D.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 05/2011:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $132

Moderately worn - $186

Slightly worn - $264

Almost no wear - $300

Uncirculated - $384 to $35,750 depending on quality

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $265

Moderately worn - $480

Slightly worn - $980

Almost no wear - $3,322

Uncirculated - $7,660 to $53,950

"D" mint mark (Dahlonega, GA):

Very worn - $1,260

Moderately worn - $3,030

Slightly worn - $4,160

Almost no wear - $10,182

Uncirculated - $30,550 to $58,500

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
