I have an 1875 D US Gold $20.00 Coin, Lone Eagle on One side(Wings Spread)

on the other side is a Crowned Liberty Head-Any Ideas on how much it's worth ?

AnswerWhat you are seeing as a "D" mint mark is actually "D." with a period and was a 19th century abbreviation for "dollar". The Dahlonega mint closed in 1861 and Denver didn't open till 1906 so no 1875 US coin could have a D mint mark.

To find the actual mint mark look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be a CC or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 11/2012:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $2,140

Moderately worn - $2,160

Slightly worn - $2,170

Almost no wear - $2,328

Uncirculated - $2,500 to $48,600 depending on quality

"CC" mint mark (Carson City):

Very worn - $2,250

Moderately worn - $2,440

Slightly worn - $2,590

Almost no wear - $3,768

Uncirculated - $6,140 to $73,580

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $2,140

Moderately worn - $2,160

Slightly worn - $2,170

Almost no wear - $2,282

Uncirculated - $2,440 to $48,600

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
