The U.S. did not issue silver dollars in 1876. Does your coin say "Trade Dollar" on the reverse side? If so, please see the Related Question.
If it does not say "Trade Dollar", either the date is not 1876 or you have a counterfeit. There has been a flood of counterfeit dollar coins in the last 20 years, some good enough to fool experienced collectors and some really bad, with impossible dates and designs.
I'd strongly suggest having it examined in person by a dealer.
