Food shortages, the Union Blockade made it difficult for the economy to thrive, and they could not import, export, or fish. If they could not import, they have a shortage of ammunition. If they cannot export, they cannot get the cotton to France and England and get theyre much needed support. Hey, atleast they dont run out of cotton eh? General Winfield Scotts "March to the Sea" basically destroyed everything. He burned innocent peoples homes, farms, towns claiming one Confederate is the same as the whole South.
