some of the things being done was people speaking up and making their voice be heard
The Confederate Flag does not symbolize slavery. Yes that was one reason why the South secede from the Union but the biggest deal was the South was being taxed high on there cotton by Lincoln so in doing so they secede, Slavery was around before the Confederate States of America was even set up. The flag does NOT symbolize Slavery it Symbolize a group of people who had the guts to stand up for themselves and withdraw from the union with out any war ,but that did not set well with Lincoln. ~ ~ ~ The above is the answer given by people who are supporters of slavery and of the southern states' secession. The southern states secession forced the war on Our nation in order to free the human beings who were being treated worse than dogs by greedy, wealthy, murderous plantation owners. There IS no excuse for slavery. Nor is there any excuse for the ignorance that prevails in the confederate wanna-be types to this very day in America. Antebellum homes = slave owners residences = evil that was done within

For the most part racism remained the same or as some historians will note, they believed it increased. In the North, as an example, most people there did not like slavery. When slavery was ended some people in the North, expressed more racism as now more freed Blacks had migrated to the North. All types of ways to keep freed slaves below the social and political level of whites were used to deny Blacks jobs and the right to vote.
The Civil War was fought between the North (who wanted to abolish slavery) and the South (who wanted to keep slavery). President Lincoln's first goal was to preserve the Union, but eventually decided to work to free the slaves. He passed the Emancipation Proclamation which was supposed to free the slaves. However, the loopholes in the document actually freed no slaves. After the Civil War, the Reconstruction Era began. New laws were passed to give rights to slaves. The first one, the 13th amendment, officially freed the slaves from all types of servitude. There were about 4 million slaves freed in total.
we have let slavery continue today because if we stop it, many companies will go down and this fact scares us.I think this is such a lie. Many people are scared to actually do something about it today that's why slavery is still happeneing out there in the world. Is not cause companies will go down but the only reason is that racism still exists today. Theres many children around the world worked to death. Theres thousands of people suffering right at this moment. IS time for us to do our part in the world and take a step up to this. We cant let this happen to us. FREEDOM AND PEACE is What THE WORLD NEEDS TO STAY EQUAL...========================================MINOR EDITI cannot wholly agree with the answers above, however, I believe people are entitled to honest opinions. It has been reported that deep in Brazil's Amazon River regions, some slavery still exists. It is up to the government of Brazil to make sure it does not exist there or anywhere in Brazil. The United Nations must know if slavery still exists and take measures to stop it. The easiest way is to expose the nations that still have it and basically embarrass them to end it.The other two types of slavery are hard to stop. One is "child labor". This is a form of slavery. The nations where it exists have undoubtedly tried to abolish it. However, in faraway villages and under the direction of their own parents this type of slavery still exists. The other type of slavery that has been documented in TV documentary programs involves "sex slavery". Young women travel to become dancers in certain countries and soon find out that they are cut off from their families at home and in fact become "forced prostitutes". The nations involved have been exposed yet the slave trade in women continues.
