For most of the war they were neutral, they saw it as an European war that they had no part in. However over time more and more people in the US realized that what happens in other countries doe s affect them, particularly when ever increasing numbers of American were being killed by Germany's unrestricted submarine warfare program. Eventually the American public sentiment turned toward entering the war on the Allied side.
World War 1 took place from 1914-1918. It was World War 2 that took place in 1939. During the Second World War, most Americans wished to remain neutral. However, when it seemed like Germany would win the war in mid 1940, many agreed on entering the war since it would become a national threat.
After World War I, America’s desire for normalcy stemmed from a collective yearning for stability and a return to pre-war life, following the upheaval and sacrifices of the conflict. The economic boom and social changes during the war led to inflation and labor strikes, creating uncertainty. Additionally, the disillusionment with international involvement and the desire to focus on domestic issues fueled a push for a more isolationist stance. This desire was encapsulated in the 1920 presidential campaign of Warren G. Harding, who famously promised a "return to normalcy."
Because we felt that we should have never joined and that it was basically Europe's problem and we should not get involved.
America mainly sent weapons, supplies, ect. to France, Great Britain, and Russia. After the Germans blew up Lusitania the U.S. removed there policy of isolationism.
