Scotts anaconda plan was split into four parts. His first goal was to capture Richmond the South's capital. Next to capture the Mississippi river. Third to block all trading from foreign nations to the south. Last to conquer the inner lands o the south by dividing them in half
Lieutenant-Gen. Winfield Scott, General in Chief of the US Army in 1861.
The union troops used the "anaconda plan" By General Winfield Scott. The anaconda plan said that it would blockade the Souths ports, keeping out any European trade and then it would capture the Mississippi river to divide the rebels further. As you can guess the union is slowly constricting the confederacy thus it is called the anaconda plan.
The Anaconda plan didn't propose anything. It was a military plan that was proposed by Winfield Scott. This was the Union;s plan to defeat the Confederacy at the beginning of the civil war and consisted of: 1) capturing Richmond, VA (the Confederate capitol) 2) training their army better 3) fighting into the deeper south 4) blockading the Confederate coast line
It did not take place. The plan was put forward at the begining by the elderly General-in-Chief Winfield Scott, and it was immediately ridiculed by cartoonists as the 'Anaconda Plan', because it was like slowly squeezing the life out of the victim. (At that time, nearly everybody expected a short war.) Later, when they found it wasn't going be a short war, the Union did go ahead with a plan that was very like it.
