You would have to think that the prime motivation was SURVIVAL! They arrived with a minimal amount of materials and had to learn to live off of the land. Planting crops meant having to wait for harvest to get additional food. So they had to learn what vegetation was edible, and had to hunt animals in the forest.
Then there was the shelter requirement. Trees had to be felled to make log homes to live in before the winter snows came.
At first the Pilgrims and the Native Americans got along well but as more and more settlers arrived and they demanded more land, the relationship between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims snapped and they went to battle in King Philip's War.

im glad you see this my way the reason why was because once the pilgrims landed on Plymouth rock they decide they wanted the land of the west and were greedy for more and they had no senseable reason why the took it plus they thought it would be a ideal place.

A journey taken for special reason is called an expedition.
One important reason is religion. Which religion they were I don't remember, probably Puritans or Quakers, either way they were persecuted for their beliefs in their home country.
