To explain: Under the picture of James Garfield it has the words "In God We Trust 20th President 1881." However 1881 is not the date of the coin, it only shows the year of the president's term. If you look on the rim of the coin you can see the actual year of mintage, 2011. Sorry to disappoint you, but its not made of gold either! The shiny surface only looks like gold but is actually brass on top of copper. If it's uncirculated the coin is probably only worth $3-$8 but save it because these dollar coins are now discontinued and may be worth more someday!
