It will only have a D if the coin was made in Denver. The location depends on the coin's date:

1964: on the back near the eagle's claw on the left side of the coin

1965-67: no coins were made with mint marks

1968-present: above the date

Halves dated 1980 and later could also have a P above the date for Philadelphia. Philly coins from earlier years did not have mint marks.

In any case JFK halves are rarely collectibles because so many have been made. Again, values depend on the date:

1964: about $6-7 for their 90% silver content

1965-69: about $2.50 for their 40% silver content

1971-present: 50 cents only. All are made of copper and nickel.
