Allen's Farm is one of the names for the engagement fought on June 29, 1862, as the rearguard of the Army of the Potomac withdrew from the entrenchments at Fair Oaks to a position at Savage Station. This was part of McClellan's change of base to the James River in the series of battles known as The Seven Days. Allen's Farm was located near Orchard Station, and the engagement is known by that name, and also by the name Peach Orchard. The fighting lasted about two hours, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and the rearguard then pulled back to Savage Station during the lull.

The phrase "bought the farm" is believed to have originated in the United States in the mid-20th century, particularly during World War II. Over time, the expression transitioned into a euphemism for dying in general, often used in a humorous or lighthearted context.

Where did Wilbur McClain say that the Civil War began ad where it ended?

Appomattox. The first Civil War battle in the Eastern US was fought on his farm. He was so distressed about the effect it had on his family that he sold his farm and bought a farm in a quiet out of the way location called Appomattox. By chance when Generals Lee and Grant met to sign the articles of surrender they met at his house. The Civil War started and ended in the same place, on Wilbur McClain's property.
