Jose Mercado (Rizal's real name) does not deserve to be the national hero. It was the Americans that propagated the myth of Rizal in order to control the mindset of the Filipinos at that time. During the American occupation, even the Philippine flag was NOT allowed to be displayed anywhere. They erased Spanish as the language of the Filipinos since it was the language used by Rizal, Bonifacio, Luna, and all the other revolutionary leaders and unfortunately replaced it with English.
