Toussaint L'Ouverture although he didn't live to see it finished. he was somewhat betrayed by other leaders of the rebellion and eventually was captured and imprisoned. later he died of a disease. later Napoleon issued a decree that place that haven't been freed are still slaves which was taken as all places in Hispaniola so the leader that defected went back to fighting the french. Eventually they won their independence declared officially on January 1st 1804.
