The United States has no martyr saints at this time. However, in the late sixteenth century, six Spanish Franciscans ministered to the people called Guale who lived along what is now the Georgia coast. Their names were Pedro de Corpa, Blas RodriÂguez, Miguel de Anon, Antonio de Badajoz, Francisco de Verascola, and Francisco de Avila. All but de Avila were murdered on September 14, 16, and 17 in 1597. They have not been canonized.
