The Civil War only started because the slave states wanted to become their own country so they could continue slavery. If slavery didn't become illegal there might not have been a war
Ely Parker was a Seneca Indian and a Union officer during the American Civil War. He served as a close aide to General Ulysses S. Grant and played a significant role in drafting the official surrender document that was signed by Grant and Confederate General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. Parker's involvement in this historic moment highlighted both his military contributions and the complex role of Native Americans in American history. There is a long list of US Civil War veterans, some were heroes, that remained in the US Army after the US Civil War. Among them was Philip Sheridan, whose exploits as a general for the Union were displayed in Virginia. It was Sheridan, who continued his career on the US's western frontiers, who was known to hate Native Americans. His infamous slogan of " The only good Indian is a dead Indian" places him along side more famous Native American haters such as General William T. Sherman.
