because they were the presidents even though the country was divided in half.

Reconstruction was only partially successful for a short time. When reconstruction ended, much of the south returned to its racist ways. It remained for the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s to complete the work that might have been accomplished with Reconstruction.
he stopped slavery and brought the country together as one nation.

yes. i believe that most of them did. i am 100% positive that Washington had slaves, and the following 14 up to Lincoln all had slaves as well.
He Beleaved that the President should be in charge, becasue they wanted to get things done faster
Historians are still debating this today. In my opinion as a historian, I believe that the ease of Reconstruction that President Johnson began before Radical Reconstruction would have happened under Lincoln. I also believe that he would have not pardoned top-ranking officials, but also would not have prosecuted them. Jefferson Davis certainly would not have lived in a prison for two-plus years. The Radical Republicans rose to power claiming two parts: 1) to avenge the losses of Union men on the battlefield, and 2) avenge the loss of Abraham Lincoln. If Lincoln had not been assassinated, there is reason to believe that he would have been able to control the Congress better than Johnson did. There is also debate as to if Lincoln would have survived his second term in any case. There is a large contingent of people who believe that Lincoln suffered from Marfan Syndrome. This elongates the bones, especially in the arms and legs. It affects the heart, lungs, and central nervous system. There are also theories that he suffered from other genetic problems similar to Marfan. The simple answer is, unfortunately, that we will never know for certain.
because he was a very ignorant person and was a southern man. he would revoke the land and give it back to the confederate land owners. Johnson didnt believe that blacks were included in the Reconstruction Era

Abraham Lincoln did not believe in slavery.
Lincoln is usually considered one of the best US Presidents.
There are many people in the world that reconstruction was positive. There are equally as many people who believe the opposite.
I believe it's around 9 presidents.
Both presidents Lincoln and Buchanan believed that secession was unconstitutional. They did differ, however, on one important point. Buchanan, unlike Lincoln, however, did not believe that the federal government had the constitutional power to resist secession through the use of force.
