the English settlers came to the Americas to escape the religion in England. they came here to b able to practice their own religion.

The motives of the Jamestown colonists were economic. They were sponsored by the Virginia Company of London who wanted to expand English trade.

The Plymoth settlers left England to escape religious persecution, hence they were known as Separatists. The Puritans or Pilgrims as they are now known, originally fled to Holland but after several years, they realized their children were losing their English heritage. This prompted them to leave and eventually they landed at Plymouth Rock where they established their new home.

The colonization of North America and the founding of Jamestown were caused by the strategic rivalry between England and Spain. New land had to learn to live on them, so people from England arrived in Jamestown. I think they came on duty or under compulsion, since most of the early settlers were killed.
