Unlike New England, people did not live in towns- they were spread out in the country.

meetings were held in the new england colonies because its a short distance to walk to go to town gatherings,to discuss democratic ideas.On the other hand in the middle colonies large farms meant distances between homes and towns so meetings were kept once in a blue moon.(every now and then).
