The South wanted more control of their own states. Lincoln did not support this. Also, the South supported slavery, and Lincoln didn't.

People thought he was going to abolish slavery if he became president. Also he wasnt even on some of the ballots.

Most Southern (Confederate) sates were in favor of keeping slavery. President Lincon wanted to abolish slavery.
