Taxation without representation: all taxable transactions had to have taxes collected and then shipped to England for delivery to the King. Many transactions had to wait for approval from the King in order to proceed; a very slow process. And, the King gave no rights of representation to the Colonies even though he was collecting taxes from them. They also wanted to be free of British rule.
At the time of the American Revolutionary War, many colonists came to feel that King George III was a tyrannical ruler, who made unreasonable demands upon the colonies, which were run for the benefit of the crown rather than being allowed to serve their own needs.
Partly because they were highly taxed by the British government, but were not represented in the British Parliament.
