There are many factors that lead to the wide range of climates that are found in America. In the West, there are mountains that block clouds from delivering rain. This causes a dry climate. In the East, it is fairly flat; and elevation is much lower. This results in very moist climates which are good for farming.

Distance from the equator is another major factor. Alaska is cold because it is near the North Pole. Meanwhile, Arizona gets very hot, because it is close to the equator.
