Buy new tires when the tread depth gets to be 2 millimeters or less. Actually 2/32 of an inch, easy way to tell is to get a penny stick it in so that the top of Abe lincolns head is facing down into the tire. If the tread comes up to his head, your still ok.

Not sure. I have a 1974 penny with a baseball batter and pitcher stamped in front of lincolns face. The batter's jersey ends in 'TS' Any idea what this coin is?
